What kind of vehicle is the 2024 Toyota Sequoia? What does it compare to?
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia is a full-size, three-row SUV with impressive towing ability. Compare it to the Ford Expedition, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon.
Is the 2024 Toyota Sequoia a good car/SUV?
The 2024 Sequoia makes a strong case for itself with its huge interior, comfortable ride, and strong powertrain, though no full-time four-wheel-drive mode is a head scratcher. It’s a 6.2 out of 10 on the TCC scale. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
What’s new for the 2024 Toyota Sequoia?
This year, Toyota has added a blacked-out trim package called Nightshade, while the TRD Off-Road package can now be paired with the high-end Platinum trim level.
Otherwise, the Sequoia carries over after a thorough redesign last year. It shares its underpinnings, its V-6 engine, and much of its styling with the Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
With an upright front end, the Sequoia is clearly linked to the Tundra. From the side, it’s all SUV with its long roof and clean, purposeful lines. Inside, the Sequoia is all about big, from its available 14.0-inch touchscreen to its massive cargo area.
The 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 muscles out 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque to the rear or, optionally, all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. A small electric motor gives it the ability to run as an EV in light-load, in-town situations. That hybrid setup earns the Sequoia fuel economy ratings as high as 22 mpg combined, too.
The softly-tuned suspension swallows up big bumps, even if it allows for quite a bit of lean into hard corners. With a tow rating of 9,520 pounds in top form, the Sequoia stands ready to lug big trailers with confidence.
The Sequoia can be an off-road champ in TRD Pro guise with its Fox shocks, though its huge dimensions mean you’ll need to find a wide trail. All four-wheel-drive versions have a simple 2-speed transfer case with no full-time four-wheel-drive mode, however.
The big interior features comfortable front- and second-row seats, including available middle-row captain’s chairs. The large cargo area maxes out at around 90 cubic feet of luggage space, though the rearmost seatbacks that don’t fold flat are a demerit.
On the other hand, the Sequoia comes loaded with driver-assistance and crash-avoidance features that make it a great road-tripper.
How much does the 2024 Toyota Sequoia cost?
The Sequoia lineup starts at $62,725 this year. Four-wheel drive runs $3,000 more. We’d be happy enough with the base SR5 trim level, which has an 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, cloth seats that are heated up front, and a sunroof. Add synthetic leather seats and a bigger touchscreen and you can still keep a four-by-four model to about $70,000.
Where is the 2024 Toyota Sequoia made?
In San Antonio, Texas.
