What’s new for the 2024 Nissan Altima?
The Altima sees no notable tweaks for 2024 after a mild restyle last year that gave it standard LED headlights flanking a wide grille. Most versions have sedate detailing, but all Altimas have a chiseled physique in line with their featherweight 3,200-pound curb weight. Inside, however, the Altima is fairly conservative, with a wide touchscreen and attractive but hardly decadent materials.
Most Altimas use a 188-hp inline-4 paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The combo provides adequate get-up-and-go, plus stellar fuel economy as high as 32 mpg combined and nearly 40 mpg on the highway. (Higher-trim versions are rated at 31 mpg combined due in part to their bigger wheels.) Optional all-wheel drive improves winter and wet weather traction at the detriment of fuel consumption. They’re rated at 30 mpg combined.
The optional turbo-4 snorts out more power, but it hardly transforms the Altima into a sports sedan. In any configuration, these cars ride plushly, with great highway manners. They’re not really corner carvers, though.
The Altima’s plenty spacious inside, with stretch-out space for four or even five passengers. The front seats are especially comfortable for longer stints. A decent truck adds appeal. The interior’s light on styling appeal, though materials are nice throughout. Screen sizes vary by trim level, stretching from a low of just 5.0 inches to a maximum of 12.3 inches.
Standard across the line is a complement of crash-avoidance tech, including automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitors, while Nissan’s particularly good driver-assist feature called ProPilot Assist is widely available for short stints of hands-off driving.
The Altima has earned top marks from both the IIHS and the NHTSA.
