What kind of vehicle is the 2024 Jaguar I-Pace? What does it compare to?
Though the Tesla Model Y is widely considered the frontrunner of the luxury EV crossover segment, the Jaguar I-Pace actually arrived first, in 2018, and beats the Tesla in terms of luxury. Though the I-Pace falls short in range compared to some rivals, it’s quite efficient and boasts standout design. It earns a TCC Rating of 8.2 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
Is the 2024 Jaguar I-Pace a good car?
Yes. It’s a fine choice in the compact luxury crossover segment, though it doesn’t really break any new ground. Jaguar combines an alluring design with a capable, though heavy EV platform and powertrain that can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and has an EPA-estimated range of 246 miles.
What’s new for the 2024 Jaguar I-Pace?
Every Jaguar I-Pace now comes standard with the R-Dynamic handling package and the Black Exterior Pack of styling upgrades. The I-Pace also gets a facelift with a new grille design, front aperture blades in Atlas Grey, body-color trim, and a new rear diffuser. Go a step further with two new extra-cost satin paint options.
The I-Pace’s sole powertrain pairs two permanent-magnet electric motors with a 90-kwh battery pack, for a combined 394 hp and 512 lb-ft of torque. Jaguar aspired to bless the I-Pace with track performance and some all-terrain capability, though more range might have been a more worthwhile goal. At 246 miles on a full charge, the I-Pace falls short of key rivals.
Though the I-Pace doesn’t fast-charge as quickly as other crossover EVs, it can recover 63 miles in 15 minutes with a 150-kw CCS connector, and it can charge at rates up to 100 kw. On a 240-volt home charger, a full charge takes less than nine hours thanks to an 11-kw onboard charger.
The I-Pace’s cab-forward design and rakish profile add up to a look that’s more like the F-Pace or other Jaguar crossovers than like other EVs. The elegant exterior and classy cabin outshine any of Tesla’s offerings, though the I-Pace isn’t particularly spacious and comfortably seats just four 6-foot passengers. There’s 25 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear row.
The cabin features a stacked 10.2-inch touchscreen and a 5.5-inch touchscreen, with the upper display housing infotainment controls and the lower display managing climate controls. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, along with Amazon Alexa and wireless device charging.
Though the I-Pace hasn’t been crash-tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS, it comes standard with adaptive cruise control with steering assist, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, a surround-view camera system, rear parking sensors, and traffic sign recognition. However, many rivals offer more advanced hands-free driving features.
Jaguar backs the I-Pace with a 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that includes scheduled maintenance for that duration, as well as an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty.
How much does the 2024 Jaguar I-Pace cost?
The 2024 I-Pace is available in one trim level, the HSE R-Dynamic, which starts at $74,275 including a $1,275 destination charge. It’s well-equipped at this price, but options like extra-cost paint and premium upholstery can push the price toward the $90,000 mark.
Where is the 2024 Jaguar I-Pace made?
It’s built in Austria.
