The 2023 Navigator is Lincoln’s full-size luxury SUV. Of the true SUVs that remain on the market, this is among the most posh and polished we’ve driven. Rivals include the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Cadillac Escalade, and BMW X7.
Overall, the 2023 Navigator is a good SUV. It earns a TCC Rating of 7.2 of a possible 10 points, and that score would be higher with better EPA fuel economy ratings. (Read more about how we rate cars.)
The Lincoln Navigator got a refresh for 2022 and doesn’t see any significant changes for 2023.
Last year’s update brought subtle exterior changes including a new grille design, standard LED adaptive headlights, and sequential LED tails. Bigger changes were found inside, adding more comfort and tech. The 10.0-inch touchscreen was replaced by a 13.2-inch unit with a new interface and available wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The color palette was updated, along with the selection of wood trim. Black Label models got new interior “themes,” as well.
Seats were upgraded all around, including changes to the optional 30-way power-adjustable and massaging front buckets and newly standard heated and cooled second-row seats. Massage functions are now available on second-row seats, as well. A 5.8-inch touch display was added to the second row, so rear passengers have access to their own temperature controls. Rear passengers may also enjoy 10.1-inch touchscreens fitted with Amazon Fire TV and wireless headphones. The optional Revel 28-speaker stereo system benefits from eight new overhead speakers.
Lincoln’s hands-free ActiveGlide driver-assist technology also made its debut on the Navigator for 2022. It’s similar to the Bluecruise system from Ford and is a competitor to the Super Cruise system available in Cadillac models.
Using the system is similar to adaptive cruise control. It maintains the Navigator’s lane position and following distance. The driver needs to intervene only periodically. This Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system is compatible with upwards of 130,000 miles of North American divided highways. Navigation is required, as well as a data plan that switches to subscription access when the trial is complete after three years.
Every Navigator comes powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine rated for 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed auto gearbox sends power to the back wheels in standard configuration, while four-wheel drive is available.
Towing capacity checks in at 8,700 lb, and the trailering package offers backup assistance with reverse guidance.
The standard adaptive suspension system features a network of sensors that evaluate road conditions and make predictive changes to adjust ride quality—unnecessary, perhaps, but certainly welcome. The Navigator includes a robust collection of standard active safety tech, such as automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitors, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, park assist, and the Intersection Assist feature, which can automatically apply the brakes if oncoming traffic interferes with a left turn.
Every Navigator features leather, 10-way power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, power-foldable rear seats, heated and cooled second-row seats, wireless device charging, at least five USB charge ports, and 20-inch wheels.
