An established leader in motorcycle gear, Alpinestars is getting into the full-face streetbike helmet segment with its new Supertech R10 Road Racing Helmet Launch Edition. The S-R10 was developed with input from MotoGP racers and is designed to provide optimal levels of protection, ventilation, aerodynamic performance, and comfort.
It will be available in a Dark Candy Red colorway along with a Carbon Glossy colorway with Dark Candy Red ink accents. The Red Carbon Glossy S-R10 is limited to just 200 units and will be available for purchase at alpinestars.com starting at 9 p.m. PDT on July 10. In addition to the helmet, purchasers will also receive race and standard spoilers, clear and dark smoke visors, a Pinlock lens and tear offs, a chin curtain, wind and breath deflectors, and a paddock helmet bag.
The outer shell of the S-R10 utilizes 3K high-density carbon, unidirectional carbon composite, fiberglass, and aramid fiber. These layers together help to reduce compression, deflect impact energy, offer top-tier penetration protection, and increase the radial strength of the shell. It exceeds current ECE 22.06 helmet regulations.
The inner shell utilizes eight-piece EPS with six different densities, each intended to disperse impact energy and reduce the effects of a variety of impact forces. There are four different outer and inner shell sizes also, ensuring riders are able to find the optimal fit.
Alpinestars A-Head Fitment System furthers the custom feel of the lid by allowing riders to adjust the height and angle at which the helmet sits on the head.
Extensive wind tunnel testing, along with on-track MotoGP testing, has resulted in a highly aerodynamic shape. According to Alpinestars, the S-R10 outperforms the competition in terms of lowering drag and improving stability at speed on track. The standard and race spoilers are easily swapped using Alpinestars’ patented release system. This setup also ensures that the spoilers detach in the event of a crash. Lateral winglets are built in to improve drag and stability, while the visor is specially designed to reduce noise.
A sophisticated ventilation design incorporates seamlessly into the aerodynamic shape of the lid, with seven intake ports and four exhaust ports. The face shield is lockable and provides up to 220 degrees of lateral and 57 degrees of vertical visibility. It utilizes a toolless, quick-release mounting system to make visor swaps a breeze. The lining is removable and washable, and features antimicrobial treatments.
According to Alpinestars, the S-R10 in medium tips the scales at just 3.4 pounds.
