2024 Yamaha TW200 First Look Preview

Yamaha returns its TW200 to the lineup for 2024, leaving the bike unchanged for another year. This approachable dual sport is a staple of Big Blue’s lineup and promises to continue forward with its retro appeal into the foreseeable future.

As we noted in our recent review of the 2023 edition, the TW has been untouched since 2001 when designers added a disc brake and electric start. The fact that the platform remains unchanged so long has added to its appeal, interestingly enough, because it retains an authentic air of nostalgia in styling and mechanical design.

Nostalgic styling is a highlight feature of the TW200.

The 196cc air-cooled single vibes at high rpm, the bike’s five-speed transmission is cable-actuated and uncomplicated, providing a decisive shift feel reminiscent of older machines. The telescopic fork and coil-spring shock work well enough to soak up bumps and are aided by fat 18-inch and 14-inch Bridgestone tires. Braking components, disc up front and drum at the rear, aren’t anything to write home about but are reliable in bringing the dual sport to a stop.

Yamaha added a disc out front in 2001, the year of the bike’s last notable update.

Styling is decidedly retro, with fork gaiters and the square headlight stealing the aesthetic show out front. There are no LED elements to be found anywhere.

Beyond those novel features though is a bike that beginners will love. It’s got a relatively low 31.1-inch seat height and an easy-to-manage 278 curb weight. It’s easy to ride, offers both on- and off-road capability, and retains its value, making it appealing to riders who plan to upgrade once they develop their new skill set.

The 2024 Yamaha TW200 will start at $4,999.

Price has increased over the 2023 model, however, now sitting at $4,999, up $100 from last year.
